Where does Europe end and Asia begin?

A good question—and not always an easy one. Countries like Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan sit on the boundary between two continents, yet culturally and politically they’re closer to Europe than you might think. That’s why, on our maps, you’ll find them in Europe. The countries we consider truly intercontinental, however, appear under both categories—Europe and Asia—in our articles and lists.
